Toronto Six announce team leadership for 2021 season
TORONTO — The Toronto Six have named Shiann Darkangelo as team captain for the 2021 NWHL bubble. Emma Woods and Emma Greco will serve as alternate captains in Lake Placid.
"I'm thrilled to have Shiann, Emma, and Emma lead our team this season," Murphy said. "They are true leaders and will represent us on and off the ice for our inaugural season."
Darkangelo has five years and over 80 games of professional hockey experience. She scored 10 points in 27 games for the 2018-19 Toronto Furies of the CWHL and 18 points in 2017-18 for the Kunlun Red Star. Darkangelo served as alternate captain for the Buffalo Beauts in the 2016-17 NWHL season.
“It’s an honour to be selected as a captain for the Toronto Six alongside Greco and Woods,” Darkangelo said. “We have a team full of leaders and I’m excited to do my part in bringing the Isobel Cup to Toronto.”
Alongside Darkangelo, Woods and Greco were teammates at Quinnipiac University. In 2016-17 Woods was selected as captain for the Bobcats (Greco was an assistant) as they went 21-6-10 and placed third in the ECAC conference. Both Woods and Greco played in the CWHL prior to joining the Six.
“It’s a privilege to be chosen as a captain for our inaugural season in the National Women’s Hockey League,” Woods said. “The feeling is extra special knowing any one of my teammates would be fit for this role. I will be representing this team the very best I can, and help lead The Toronto Six to our first championship.”
